So Josh and I have been looking for a church to start attending here in MI and last weekend I think we found a winner!
It wasn't a typical service that day- they were doing an activity called "The Church Has Left The Building". Basically the lesson was to remind us that "church" is not a building- it is the people that make up a church and the actions and hearts of those people.
So they had t-shirts made that said "The Church Has Left The Building" and everyone got one along with a shopping list....and instead of having a normal service everyone was asked to go to the grocery store, wearing the shirts, and buy whatever you can on the list and then bring it all back to donate to the Helping Hands Ministry.
It was a huge hit among most of the people, including me. It was a ball to see Kroger filled with maroon t-shirt wearing people spending their "church time" actually doing something for someone else- especially considering how so many people in MI are struggling.
Josh was a really good sport about it, although he declined to actually wear the t-shirt! haha It was good to see people be "shook up" a bit- to be forced out of their comfort zones by having to do something public for God...instead of hiding away their faith as if it's something to be ashamed of.
I was proud to be a Christian that morning! And Josh was sold on the Church when he heard the Pastor say "Bitching" when referring to the negative remarks from some of the congregation! LOL a man of God with a sense of humor...just what we were looking for!
