Goodbye cable!

Haha, just kidding! (sorta)  There is no way I could ever remove tv from my life.  After running and reading, it's one of my favorite ways to unwind!  And I don’t discriminate, I love Survivor, The Bachelor, Vampire Diaries,  parks and Rec, The Mindy Project, top Chef, Dallas!.....omg I could go on all day!  I. Love. TV.

What I do not love is sending half a fortune to Comcast every month.  We have been debating on and off for a while now about getting rid of cable in favor of a Netflix/HuluPlus combo but we found Netflix to have practically zero new movies and HuluPlus covered most, but not all.  So we stayed tied to our cable bundle.  Until yesterday.

Apple TV changed everything.  We purchased the Apple TV box and cancelled our Comcast bundle to replace it with a high speed internet only plan.  Then we signed up for HuluPlus  Josh and I both have iphones and macbooks so, with those apple devices, we are able to use “airplay mirroring” onto the television.  So, basically, anything we are seeing on our laptops will show up on the tv.

So many shows are shown on the stations website or they are available on HuluPlus.  There are two shows that we watch that are not available on either format so for those we will buy the “season pass” on itunes.  Even considering that cost we will still be paying half of what we were for our cable bundle.

Now the question was, what about Leah?  She does watch tv- not ALL day but she likes Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Sophia the First and some PBS kids shows.  We are able to access some Disney content via the Disney Junior app and the Disney Junior website (using airplay mirroring) AND all of the PBS shows that she loves are on HuluPlus!

The best news?!  Apple TV has YouTube integrated in it- so Leah is able to watch her favorite shows that were, before, only available on YouTube- PEEP AND THE BIG WIDE WORLD!  It is by far her favorite show and ALL of the episodes are on a special YouTube channel!  She was thrilled to see Peep and his friends on the tv as opposed to only the phone or laptop.

AND!  Leah's favorite video of Pete the Cat, she can see on the tv- she's a happy, dancing kid!

HuluPlus has a queue (similar to the DVR setup that we were used to) and both of our YouTube and iTunes accounts are linked to the TV so watching anything is seamless!  We are in love!  As Josh would say…."I like savings the money!"
